The tapered shape really does seat plugs tight enough that they almost disappear after sanding flush. I've been using them on drawer fronts with walnut and the metric sizing lines up perfectly with my Forstner bits.
I grabbed the metric set specifically for 8mm plug work and the tapers fit my dowel holes like they were drilled for them. No wobble, no glue-starved gaps, and the cut plugs sit slightly proud so I can flush them with a block plane.
The tapered plugs seat so tightly I barely need glue on most joints. I used the 10mm cutter on some walnut drawer fronts and every plug sat flush after a light plane pass. Clean cuts in end grain too, which surprised me.
