Plain de charpentier traditionnel en bois E.C. Emmerich

The wooden body gives it a lovely heft that keeps the cut steady, and the balance makes long passes feel almost effortless. I’ve had cheaper metal planes that chatter, but this one leaves a clean, even surface right out of the box.

Took this jack plane out for a full afternoon of flattening oak and the balance is just right—the wooden body feels solid without being heavy. It shaves off stock quickly and leaves a surface that needs almost no cleanup afterward.

The wooden body sits perfectly in my palm, and the balance makes long passes feel effortless right out of the box. It takes a solid shaving without chatter, and the traditional build feels far more responsive than my metal planes.
