I was nervous about uneven patches on my first hand-rubbed finish, but this oil wiped on smooth and soaked in evenly. The grain on my walnut shelf came out deeper and warmer after two coats, and it's still tack-free a day later.
Three coats on an oak table and the grain just pops now, exactly that deep hand-rubbed look you can't get from poly. It soaked in quick and left no sticky spots, which was my main worry with an oil finish. This will be my go-to for the next project for sure.
The finish cures to a nice, tough sheen that feels almost like a light varnish, but you can still feel the wood underneath. I gave my oak table three hand-rubbed coats and it handles daily spills without a fuss. Takes a couple of days to fully harden, but the wait’s worth it.
