The bristles are soft enough that they don't gouge the caps, but they still get the grit out of the gills. I keep it by the sink now and give a quick dry brush before anything hits the pan.

I used to just rinse my mushrooms and rub them with a paper towel, which always left them a bit gritty. This brush gets the dirt out of the gills and stems without bruising the caps at all.

The bristles are stiff enough to knock the dirt off but soft enough that my morels don't get bruised. I've been using it on portobellos and oysters before cooking, and it gets into the gills way better than rinsing ever did.
